Epirubicin Hydrochloride 50mg Injection is a potent anthracycline chemotherapy medication used to treat several types of solid and blood-based cancers. It works as an antineoplastic agent by interfering with the DNA multiplication of cancer cells, effectively slowing or stopping their growth.

• • Breast Cancer: Often as adjuvant therapy after surgery.
  • Other Solid Tumours: Advanced ovarian, gastric (stomach), and lung cancers.
  • Blood Cancers: Malignant lymphomas (Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s), leukemias, and multiple myeloma.
  • Bladder Cancer: Injected directly into the bladder (intravesical use) to treat or prevent recurrence.

• • Method: Given only as a slow intravenous (IV) infusion or intravesically by a trained healthcare professional.
  • Vesicant Warning: Epirubicin is a “vesicant,” meaning it can cause severe tissue blistering and necrosis if it leaks outside the vein (extravasation).
  • Schedule: Typically administered in cycles, such as once every 3 to 4 weeks. 

• Red Urine: It is normal for urine to turn red or pink for 1–2 days after treatment; this is harmless.
• Heart Health: Can cause serious cardiotoxicity (heart damage). Doctors monitor heart function (LVEF) before and during treatment.
• Common Reactions: Severe hair loss, nausea/vomiting, mouth sores (mucositis), and intense fatigue.
• Infection Risk: Lowers white blood cells (neutropenia), making the body highly susceptible to infections.
